Anthony Ortega [Fort Ashby]

FORT ASHBY, W.Va. — Anthony Ortega, 20, died Monday, Nov. 2, 2009 as the result of a moped accident in Jacksonville, Atlantic Beach, Fla., where he lived.

Born Jan. 11, 1989 in California, but raised in Jacksonville, in 2005 he came to West Virginia and stayed with his Uncle Darrel and Aunt Connie and attended Frankfort High School and Mineral County Vo-tec Center, where he learned to weld. He also helped with the haunted house in Green Spring, W.Va. He was currently working at the Naval Station in Florida.

He is survived by his wife of 8 months, Nicole (Prado) Ortega, who was injured in the accident; his dog, Hannah; his parents, Cathy and Vince; a brother, Triston Kroeger of Atlantic Beach; and a sister Ashley Ortega, who is stationed in Texas with the Air Force; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

He enjoyed tattooing, drawing, surfing, welding and loved deer hunting while living in West Virginia.

He was a beloved son, nephew, brother, grandson, cousin and friend, who will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

Funeral arrangements were handled by the Quinn-Shalz Funeral Home, Jacksonville, Atlantic Beach.
