Joyce Elaine (Deffinbaugh) Conduitt [Cumberland]

CUMBERLAND — Joyce Elaine (Deffinbaugh) Conduitt, 77, of Queen City Towers, died Oct. 3, 2009, at WMHS-Braddock Campus.

Born July 9, 1932, she was the daughter of Corrine (Steckman) Deffinbaugh and George Dewey Deffinbaugh. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Conduitt; daughter, Valerie Daughtery; seven brothers and three sisters.

She was formerly employed at the Schwab Co. until her retirement. While residing at Queen City Towers, Joyce met Linda Gilbert and developed a close friendship with her. Joyce planted and cultivated two gorgeous flower boxes at Queen City Towers. They were admired by the tenants as well as passersby, who stopped and said how lovely they were. She also tended to all the family graves on Memorial Day at Oldtown, St. Mary’s and Davis Memorial cemeteries.

Surviving are one sister, Nyla (Deffinbaugh) Cooper, Cumberland; several nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews; and two dear and special friends, Linda Gilbert and Ruth Anderson.

Joyce was a kind woman and will be sadly missed by all who knew her. At her request, she donated her body to the Maryland State Anatomy Board.
