CUMBERLAND — Doris May Whiteman, 79, of Cumberland, went to be with the Lord, Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2009 at her residence.
Born July 2, 1930 in Great Capon, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Ovey and Olivia (Alderton) Shambaugh. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, William Whiteman; four brothers, Ray Shambaugh, Richard Shambaugh, Robert Shambaugh, Keith Shambaugh; two sisters, Mary Lou Shambaugh and June (Shambaugh) Pryor; and brother-in- law, Clarence Pryor.
Mrs. Whiteman was a restaurant manager at McCroy’s Restaurant for 30 years. She also worked for Marriott, Eckhart Drug and Robb & Walsh Attorneys. She was a member of Emmanuel Bethel United Methodist Church, where she was a member of several committees. She was a Sunday school teacher, a member of the Cumberland Moose and a former member of McKinley Chapter 12 Order of the Eastern Star.
Surviving are one son, William “Rusty” Whiteman and wife Charlene, Wiley Ford, W.Va; one daughter, Linda Davis and husband Chester, Cumberland; five grandsons, Tony Whiteman and wife Jill, Greg Whiteman, Mike Whiteman, Chip Davis and wife Amanda, Nicholas Davis and wife Kathleen; seven great-grandchildren, Sarah, Brett, Lauren, Brendan, and Brittney Whiteman, Brady and Ava Davis; four brothers, Dennis Shambaugh and wife Donna, Pennsylvania, Frank Shambaugh and wife Kay, West Virginia, Steve Shambaugh and wife Linda, Ronald Shambaugh and wife Stephanie, Cumberland; two sisters, Ginny Carr and husband Jim, Libby Witt and husband Ray; two sisters-in-law, Sheila Shaffer and husband Glenn and Lois Shambaugh, Cumberland; and special cousins in West Virginia.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave,, (www.scarpellifuneralhomes. com) on Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Friday at 11 a.m. with Ray Witt, certified lay leader, officiating.
Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
