Elections board meets today

CUMBERLAND — The Allegany County Board of Elections wll meet today at 9 a.m in Suite 212 of the County Office Complex on Kelly Road.

New HRDC building to open Friday

CUMBERLAND — The new Allegany County Human Resources Development Commission will hold a ribbon-cutting and grand-opening celebration for its new facility at 125 Virginia Ave. on Friday at 1 p.m.

The new HRDC facility is the first Leadership in Environmental Education and Design building in Allegany County. Remarks from local and state officials, as well as tours of the facility, will be provided. For more information, contact (301) 777-5970.

Due to the ceremony, Virginia Avenue will be closed to through traffic between First Street and Second Street from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. For more information about the closings, contact the city’s Department of Public Works at (301) 759-6620.

Donations needed for holiday meals

CUMBERLAND — The Metropolitan AME Church and Community Unity in Action have announced a campaign to provide Thanksgiving meals to 100 local families.

The meals will be distributed from the AME church, 309 Frederick St., Nov. 21, beginning at 10 a.m.

Contributions to help with the meals are tax-deductible. Anyone wanting to help with the campaign should call Larry Banks at (301) 268-4684 or Jerome Younger, (240) 682-0195, after 3 p.m.

Garrett Democrats meet Tuesday

OAKLAND — The Garrett County Democratic Central Committee will meet Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Oakland Town Hall.

The committee meets on the second Tuesday of each month. Public forums dealing with specific county issues are announced in advance.
