9 N. Centre St. not opening new arts space on second floor

To the Editor:

We are writing to correct a headline and article that occurred in the Cumberland Times-News regarding our space at 9 N. Centre St.

Contrary to the article (“‘We Sing!’ tonight in new downtown performance space,” Page 1C, we are not opening a new performance space on the second floor of 9 North Centre St.

The second floor is currently unoccupied and we have been hoping to attract an office type tenant. Because the space is unoccupied, on occasion, we have allowed other groups to use the space.

That is the case with the Choral Society. Due to some unforeseen circumstances, they were unable to use their normal venue. Their date had been set and they were searching for another venue for the same date. We know Martha Schadt and she asked us about the possibility of using the second floor of 9 N. Centre, to which we agreed.

We want to assure everyone that we will not be in the business of booking performances on the second floor of 9 N. Centre, nor is that our vision for the space. Thank you!
