Women veterans asked to register at memorial Web site

The Allegany County Commission for Women salutes our women veterans. More than 2.5 million women have served in defense of our nation. Duty, honor and pride are the words that reflect the spirit of generations of Americans who have sought to defend the rights and freedom of others.

At the Women in Military Service for America Memorial, these words come to life in the stories and memories of the nearly two million women who have served in defense of our nation.

The Women in Military Service for American Memorial Foundation Inc. is the nonprofit organization established to build the memorial, the nation’s only major national memorial honoring all servicewomen — past, present and future. The memorial was dedicated Oct. 18, 1997.

If you are a service woman, or know of a service woman, past or present, please help preserve this important and long overlooked portion of history by filling out a registration form today for yourself, a family member or friend. Every woman’s story is important.

Make sure the story of women serving in defense of our nation is recorded and never forgotten. Please go to their Web site at www.womensmemorial.org for information about the memorial and how to register, or send an email message to regdept@womensmemorial.org.

If you don’t have access to a computer, call them at 800-222-2294. Join the ranks of our servicewomen who have already registered. Learn how your story can become part of the legacy of women’s military service.

Thank you to our women veterans
