Eloise (Painter) Bowley [Fort Ashby]

FORT ASHBY, W.Va. — Eloise Painter Bowley, 88, of Fort Ashby, died Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2009 at the Frostburg Village Nursing Home.

Born Aug. 2, 1921 in Montrose, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Odos K. Painter and Rosa A. (Phillips) Painter.

She was also preceded in death by her husband W. Frank Bowley Jr.; a son, W. Frank Bowley III; a daughter, Sue Ann Bowley; and a brother, Lt. Col. (Ret.) Harry J. Painter.

During World War II, Mrs. Bowley had worked at the Social Security Board. Later, she returned to Parsons and worked as a secretary and county agent in the 4-H office.

She had been a Billing Clerk for Cook Motor Lines in Clarksburg.

Mrs. Bowley was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, charter member of the Women’s Society at the Bridgeport United Methodist Church and former member of Romney Chapter 84, Order of the Eastern Star.

Survivors include her son, Alan “Dusty” Bowley, St. John, Ind.; one brother, Carl “Bud” Painter and wife Gerry, Ocala, Fla.; two sisters, Vonda Demarest, Rock Hill, S.C. and Virginia “Nellie” Kelley, Cresaptown; two sisters-in-law, Emma Jean Painter, Dunnellon, Fla. and Mildred Simons and husband Wally, Richmond, Va.; and several nieces and nephews, including Ruth Ann Deavers, Salisbury, Conn., Jim and Toni Kelley, Clarksburg, Okey and Jean Deavers, Salem, Ohio, Barbie and George Wilson, Hendersonville, N.C., Bobbie and Sandy Deavers, South Bend, Ind., Steve and Mary Jean Simmons, West Point, Va., Kathy Neel, Richmond, Va., Mark and Susan Demarest and Marshall and Debbie Demarest, Rock Hill, N.C.; and a special friend, Kenneth Mau, St. John, Ind.

Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, Inc., Route 28, Fort Ashby, WV (1-888-724-2251) on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

The funeral service will be conducted in the funeral home on Monday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Mark Hickman, officiating.

Interment will be private.
