Mina R. Oates [Bel Air]

BEL AIR, CUMBERLAND — Mina R. Oates, 86, of Bel Air, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2009, at the WMHS—Memorial Campus.

Born Dec. 6, 1922 in Cincinnati, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence and Lula (Greber) Hamilton. She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Lawrence, Steven and Ralph Hamilton.

Mrs. Oates was a registered nurse at WMHS-Memorial Campus and worked for the Paperback Exchange Bookstore. Mina served in the Army during World War II as a lieutenant in the Nursing Corps. She enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren.

Surviving are her husband of 63 years, Charles “Charlie” Oates; two sons, Charles “Skip” Oates and wife Peggy, Bowie, Rumsey Oates and wife Linda, Point Pleasant, W.Va.; two daughters, Jane Oates, Cumberland, Kathy Abe and husband Grant, Pittsburgh, Pa.; one brother, Gene Hamilton; three sisters, Edith Rhodes, Clarissa “Kissy” Steig and Virginia “Ginny” Turner; six grandchildren, Erin, Carrie, Lindsay, Beth, Ben and Stephen; seven great-grandchildren, Samantha, Shelby Jane, Drew, Kate, Claire, Jackson and Ryder; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., Cresaptown, (www.scarpellifuneralhomes.com) on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Saturday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Grant Abe officiating.

Interment will be private in Maryland State Veterans Cemetery at Rocky Gap, Flintstone.

Military honors will be accorded by the Post 13 Honor Guard.

The family graciously requests their friends and relatives refrain from sending flowers.
