Lucy A. Howell [Barton]

BARTON — Lucy A. Howell, 95, of Barton, went to be with the Lord on Monday, Oct. 26, 2009 at the WMHS-Memorial Campus.

She was born Lucy Alice Moore on Aug. 17, 1914 at Barton, and was the daughter of the late Leonard H. Moore and Ella Mae (Shimer) Moore. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Glenn Thomas Howell; one granddaughter, Lori A. Pase; and one infant grandson, R. Gregg Weaver. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Mary Howell, Elsie Jenkins, Mae Brode, Martha Fazenbaker, Hazel Barbour; her brothers, Alvie Moore, Vincent Moore and Cecil Moore.

Lucy was an employee of the Celanese Corp. in her early working years, after which she and her husband co-owned and operated Howell’s Amoco Service Station for 30 years until their retirement in 1974. She was also a member of the Barton United Methodist Church for 83 years. She was an avid gardener for most of her adult life and her flower gardens were enjoyed by her many friends in the neighborhood.

She is survived by her son, Glenn D Howell and wife Gloria, Keyser,W.Va.; daughters, Betty Howell, Cumberland, Shirley (Mame) Ward and husband Sam, Sterling, Va., Dixie Weaver and husband Bob, Springfield, W.Va.; grandchildren, Tonya Tettenburn and husband Mark, Keyser, Gary Howell, Keyser, Lance Weaver and wife Marindy, Burlington, W.Va., Nathan Ward and wife Angela, Manassas, Va., Jarott Ward and wife Sarah, Stephen City, Va.; great-grandchildren, Derrick Tettenburn, David Tettenburn, Cole Weaver and Samantha Ward; sister, Grace Humphrey, Cresaptown; and brother, Lawrence Moore, Kitzmiller; as well as her special nephew, Ed Robertson; and caring neighbor and friend, Ray McCutcheon.

Lucy was a loving mother and grandmother. She was truly an amazing lady who with the help of the good Lord persevered until her time on this earth was completed.

To honor the life of Lucy Howell, a viewing will be held Thursday, Oct. 29, 2009 at the Boal Memorial Chapel, Barton from 3 to 8 p.m.

Funeral services will be held at the Barton United Methodist Church on Friday, Oct. 30, 2009 at 1 p.m. with Pastor Sandy Hetz and the Rev. John Park officiating. Graveside services will be held immediately following at Mountain View Cemetery, Moscow Mills.

Pallbearers will be Gary Howell, Lance Weaver, Nathan Ward, Jarott Ward, Derrick Tettenburn and David Tettenburn. Honorary pallbearers are Ed Robertson and Ray Mc-Cutcheon.
