Luke mill outage allows maintenance

LUKE — The Luke mill is scheduled to be down for a three-day maintenance outage beginning today. “This type of outage occurs periodically to do preventive maintenance work in certain areas of the mill — such as our power and steam generating areas — where the equipment must be taken out of service in order to perform the work,” said Gary Curtis, mill manager.

In addition to nearly 600 mill employees, there will be approximately 350 contractors on-site during the three-day outage.

World Psoriasis Day on Thursday

CUMBERLAND — Thursday is World Psoriasis Day and McCagh & Roberts Dermatology wants residents to be aware of the serious medical condition.

Plaque psoriasis is characterized by patches of raised, reddish skin covered with silvery-white scale, according to the dermatology practice, which is a designated psoriasis treatment center. The disease usually occurs on the scalp, knees, elbows, hands and feet.

Psoriasis patients can obtain light therapy and laser treatments using UVB bulbs that are less invasive than the UVA bulbs used in tanning facilities.
