There wasn’t much friendliness in the ‘Friends of Coal Bowl”
I’ve lived in West Virginia all my life and have always been proud of that. I’ve always been a proud fan of the Mountaineers, as well.
I went to the WVU vs. Marshall football game in Morgantown on Oct. 17. It was a cold, wet day but the weather wasn’t what put such an unpleasant spin on an otherwise fun time. It was my “fellow” fans.
I was embarrassed to be part of such a rude and obnoxious crowd. One would expect to find the occasional annoying loud-mouth, of course. That happens anytime you get a lot of people together, especially at a sporting event.
What really got to me was when most of the WVU fans booed at the Marshall Thundering Herd team when they entered the field to warm up.
The Marching Thunder band also got booed when they took the field for their halftime show.
I understand the rivalry but I though this was the “FRIENDS of Coal Bowl!” There was no friendliness in that stadium, that’s for sure. There is absolutely no need to act like that.
If there’s a bad call, boo the officials. Don’t boo the visiting team.
It’s disrespectful and tasteless and shows nothing but a lack of class. I think those radical WVU fans deserve a penalty for “Unsportsmanlike Conduct.”
