The media and the public in general are bemoaning the fact that there will be no COLA increase in Social Security payments next year. They should be cheering; not complaining!
When we get an increase, it is because the cost of living has increased and the increase in payments is designed to equal the increase in cost of living so that our buying power stays level. But when the cost of living goes down as it did this year, they do not decrease the payments so that our buying power actually increases.
This is a good thing. Don't cry, be happy.
