County residents file for 2010 election

CUMBERLAND — Don Raley, a Republican, has filed with the Allegany County Board of Elections, seeking to become the sheriff in 2010.

Raley, a Frostburg resident, was the Republican nominee for that office in 2006.

Also filing was LaVale resident Kevin M. Shaffer, a Democrat, who will run for the seat from District 1B in the Maryland House of Delegates.



Westernport schedules water work

WESTERNPORT — The Westernport Water Department will test the transmission line to the town of Luke on Wednesday between 10:30 a.m. and noon.

Periods of low water pressure and/or no water may occur.

This testing will affect the residents of the 100 block of Spruce Street and the immediate area. It is needed to supply Luke with drinking water during the Luke mill outage of Oct. 26 through 31.
