MOOREFIELD, W.Va. — The Country Store Opry will return to Moorefield on Saturday with a performance in the McCoy Theater at 7 p.m.
The show will be the last in Moorefield until next spring. During their summer break the performers took their show on the road to The Sagebrush Roundup in Fairmont and the Wheeling Jamboree in Wheeling.
Members of the Country Store Opry are Wendell Nelson, the Rev. Edgar Null, Grey Cassell, Harold Cupp, Carolyn Simmons, Tammy Western, George Park Jr. and George Park III.
The Sagebrush Roundup started as a live radio broadcast similar to the Wheeling Jamboree in 1939 and although it is no longer broadcast on the radio they continue to have country music shows every Saturday night. The CSO was a hit with the audience at the Sagebrush Roundup and received a standing ovation at the conclusion of their show.
The show that the CSO performed in Wheeling was broadcast live on the radio as well as transmitted live worldwide via the Internet.
The group received comments from people who viewed the show from as far away as Mexico and Hawaii. The CSO was accompanied to Wheeling by two busloads of faithful fans.
The final three shows for the 2009 season will held in Petersburg at the Landes Arts Center on Nov. 7 and at The Bottling Works in Romney on Oct. 24 and Nov. 14.
Shows consist of “classic country” music with story lines and melodies of singer-songwriters such as George Jones, Patsy Cline, Merle Haggard and Loretta Lynn.
Seating is on a first-come first-seated basis. Bus groups are welcome but must phone (304) 358-7771 for reservations.
