Woman charged with theft scheme

CUMBERLAND — A Cumberland woman was arrested Tuesday in connection with the alleged theft of more than $21,000 from the former Oldtown Community Systems cable company.

Cathy Ann Holland, 40, of Henderson Avenue, was charged with 46 counts of unlawful use of a credit card, fraud, theft scheme over $500 and other related offenses following a two-month investigation by the C3I Unit.

Holland was released on her personal recognizance by a district court commissioner, pending trial in district court.

The case remains under investigation with additional charges pending, according to C3I.

Police said the investigation revealed that Holland, a part-time secretary at the company, had allegedly forged numerous company checks, and had made them payable to herself. She also allegedly used the company’s credit card to make numerous purchases in the area and via the Internet.

The initial investigation into the internal theft complaint was conducted by Maryland State Police.

The Oldtown Community Systems formerly supplied cable television service in the Oldtown area until recently going out of business. The company began operations in 1980.
