Solar energy tour today
CUMBERLAND — Big D Electric Inc. in conjunction with the American Solar Energy Society is sponsoring a self-guided tour to view photovoltaic solar energy roof-mounted systems today. Participants may then meet at Big D Electric, 302 Virginia Ave., Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m. to ask questions.
The property owners who have agreed to participate in the tour are Maryland Salem Children’s Trust off Lower New Germany Road near Grantsville; Dr. Sydney and Andy Duncan, 38 Teaberry Lane, Frostburg; and Ronald Teats, 1200 Quiet Meadow Road, Flintstone.

Furlough days affect services
CUMBERLAND — The Allegany County compost site and the Little Orleans and Oldtown refuse sites will be closed for a furlough day Oct. 11.
County offices and Allegany County Transit will be closed for a furlough day Oct. 12. There will be no bus or van service.
