Young, Brown win  Club Championships

CUMBERLAND — George Young and Paula Brown won their respective Club Championships Sunday at the Cumberland Country Club.

It was the sixth Men’s Club Championship for Young, who played steady golf throughout the 54-hole event.

It was the 15th Women’s Club Championship for Brown, her first having come in 1979.

Young won the men’s title with a score of 220, with Jim Snodgrass runner-up at 223. The championship flight winner was Jim Donahue with a 235, with Scott Thomas, also at 235, placing second. The net winner was Dan Sheehe with a 209.

In the first flight, the winner was Greg Hare with a 36-hole score of 165. George Lapp was runner-up with a 167, and low net went to Bob McIntyre with a 147.

Jack Bakanowsky won the second flight with a 180, one stroke ahead of runner-up Mike Fetchero. The net winner was Ron Klinetob with a 145.

Brown won the women’s crown with a score of 193, with Angie Fetchero the runner-up with a 197. Low net went to Kelly Lee with a 166.

Maplehurst hosts AES Challenge

FROSTBURG — The Contol/Turbine team of Tom Riggin, Billy Friend and Ed Giugliano won first place in the AES Warrior Run Challenge Friday at the Maplehurst Country Club.

The Maintenance I team of Denny Trimpey, Randy Carter, Joe Enright and Joe Watts was second, and the Maintenance II team of Bernie Ickes, Tim Sisler, Matt Ottaviani and Brad Parks took third.

High school football statistics requested

CUMBERLAND — All area high school football coaches are asked to report season-to-date statistics to the Cumberland Times-News.

Coaches are requested to turn in both offensive and defensive statistics. Area leaders will be listed according to statistics submitted. 8-Ball league to meet tonight

CUMBERLAND — The Western Maryland 8-Ball League will hold captain’s meeting today, at 7 p.m., at the Ridgeley Legion. All captains must attend. All dues, rosters and contracts must be turned in at this time.
