9/26 - Mother says teen not burned by grill
CUMBERLAND — The mother of a 19-year-old Frostburg man who suffered severe burns Tuesday night said her son was not injured in an incident involving a charcoal grill as previously told to the Allegany County 911 center.
Deanna Poole said Friday she does not yet know exactly how the injuries occurred to her son Tyler, who was listed in critical and guarded condition Friday at the Johns Hopkins Bay View Burn Center in Baltimore.
Poole said her son suffered second- and third-degree burns to 90 percent of his body and that he underwent five hours of surgery Friday. She said that hospital officials told her he could be hospitalized for up to a year and a half.
The Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office is continuing to investigate the circumstances that led to the injuries of Tyler Poole. The initial call to the 911 center was made Tuesday at about 11:30 p.m.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the arson hotline at (800) 492-7529 or the Cumberland office of the fire marshal at (301) 729-5021.
