Striders

Lois Natolly, Karen Bonner and Hye Rice lead a pack of walkers on the C&O Canal Towpath Sunday during the 37th Cumberland CROP Walk, an annual event that raises money to fight world hunger. Twenty-five percent of the proceeds benefit local groups like the Western Maryland Food Bank, the Interfaith Community Food Pantry and the LaVale United Methodist Church Food Pantry, according to walk organizer Sandy Cowan. As of late Sunday, $10,300 had been raised, but Cowan said that number would grow because all groups had yet to turn in money. Georges Creek also held a CROP Walk on Sunday and a fundraising walk was held in Westernport last month. CROP is short for Communities Responding to Overcome Poverty. About 120 walkers participated in the Cumberland event.
