Frostburg State blanks Polytechnic, 3-0
RADNOR, Pa. — Sean Jones scored two goals and Michael Bistany had the other to lift Frostburg State to a 3-0 shutout of Polytechnic on Saturday in the Cabrini Soccer Festival.
The Bobcats (2-1) set the tone in the first half by dominating the Fighting Blue Jays (0-2) in shots (14-1). Still, the Bobcats led by just 1-0 with Jones scoring just 4:30 into the action off a cross through the box from Chris Mumby.
FSU put the game away with two goals over a five-minute span midway through the second half. Bistany scored on a rebound off a corner kick at 63:23, and Jones got his second goal in the 68th minute by scoring on a feed from Brian Davis.
Frostburg led in shots 19-4. Stephen Cavallo made two saves in getting the win in goal for the Bobcats, who will host Waynesburg on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
Allegany 1, Cecil 0
COLORA — The Allegany College of Maryland defense came up big, and Shawn Bistline scored his fourth goal in the last two games as the Trojans collected a win over Cecil Saturday at West Nottingham Academy.
Bistline recorded his goal with 27:15 left on the first half clock, and it came by way of a set play. Josh Neilson had the throw-in and was credited with the assist after Bistline converted the goal.
The Trojans defense allowed the Seahawks to attempt just two first half shots.
Zach Lipscomb, Neilson, Grant Smith and Matt Cunningham were credited by Head Coach Keith Eshleman for their tremendous play on defense.
Tyler Miller had six saves during his time as the Trojans’ goalie, and Josh Hamilton made seven.
The Trojans (1-1 Maryland JUCO, 2-1 overall) will play at CCBC-Catonsville on Wednesday at 5 p.m.
Anne Arundel 2, PSC 1
ARNOLD — Sean Derdomo broke a tie game with a goal in the 82nd minute to lift Anne Arundel past Potomac State in the season opener for the Catamounts.
Ryan Krogen scored to give Anne Arundel a 1-0 lead late in the first half. Potomac State’s Jeremy Everson answered just two minutes later with an unassisted goal to tie it 1-1.
Anne Arundel led in shots 14-9 and in corners 8-1. Potomac State goalie Michael Boone made eight saves.
Howard 5, PSC 1
On Sunday, Howard broke a 1-1 tie with four second-half goals to defeat Potomac State at Anne Arundel.
The Catamounts Mohamed Bangura tied the game at the 25-minute mark of the first half.
Scoring for Howard was Chen in the first half and Richard Case, Promise Ebinum and two by Costa Ruta. Eddie Gates and Ebinum had assists.
Howard out-shot Potomac State 17-4 and had seven more corner kicks, 10-3.
Michael Boone made nine saves for the Catamounts.
Potomac State visits Patrick Henry College Wednesday.
