World War I program Tuesday at Bedford Valley Bible Church

CENTERVILLE, Pa. — Living historian Joe Gardner will share the experiences of Sgt. Williams of the 112th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Division under Gen. John” Black Jack” Pershing while serving in France during World War I with members of the Cumberland Valley Township Historical Society on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Bedford Valley Bible Church.

Gardner, who serves on the society’s board of directors, will give an account of what it was like to be an American soldier, commonly known as a Doughboy, when 1.2 million U.S. troops were mobilized.

American Indian life program set Monday in Springs, Pa.

SPRINGS, Pa. — A program regarding the life of American Indians will be presented by Roy Brown on Monday at 7:30 p.m. at the Folk Meeting House in Springs.

Brown will demonstrate through his replications of native artifacts how Appalachia’s prehistoric people used the plants, animals and minerals of their environment. He has been involved with the Archeological Society of Maryland since 1987, has received certification through its Archeological Technician Program and is president of its Western Maryland Chapter.

VA Medical Center to hold emergency training exercise

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — The Martinsburg Veteran Affairs Medical Center, in an effort to improve and upgrade ongoing efforts to respond to a national emergency, will conduct a training exercise Monday through Sept. 24.

This will allow the medical center to train staff and test its readiness and capabilities in response to a public health emergency.

The center will remain open for scheduled appointments and the emergency department will remain open and fully staffed.

The public may notice increased traffic and activity around the center during this period.
