I am shocked at the blatant misinformation proffered by Ms. Marilyn J. Miller in a letter you published (“No more pay cuts, benefit cuts, layoffs or service fees,” Aug. 3 Times-News)
Right now, AFSCME Maryland is at the table with the administration, standing up for public employees rights. AFSCME MD is at the forefront of fighting back budget cuts affecting state and higher education employees. AFSCME MD is standing up and fighting for jobs, and the people of Maryland.
The fact is, Marilyn Miller’s organization (MCEA) supported Fair Share — prior to losing every election held for state employee bargaining units. Fair Share is standard for a union environment in the U.S.A. and has been since the 1930s.
Remember, the fairness and strength state workers find in the workplace comes about when everyone works together to fight for their rights and to bring about change.
State employees need more protection in the workplace. Fair Share will bring that protection. With more knowledge about rights under the collective bargaining agreement, employees will be empowered at work.
With more training on productive labor management techniques, employees will have more impact. With more outreach, employees will be able to unite and stand together for better working conditions.
