CUMBERLAND — A 54-year-old city man has been arrested on more than 20 counts of alleged hunting violations following a three-month investigation by Maryland Natural Resources Police.
Dennis George Bittinger was arrested Thursday on seven counts of false entry into a public record; five counts of exceeding the Region A white-tail deer bag limits; four counts of hunting without a license; two counts of hunting without a bow and arrow stamp; and single counts of exceeding the trout possession limit by 40 fish, possession of turkey closed season and contributing to the condition of child.
Following a bond hearing, Bittinger was released on his own recognizance, pending trial in district court.
Police said the investigation resulted in a search warrant being issued on Bittinger’s residence and hunting property Dec. 23.
If convicted on all the charges, Bittinger could be sentenced to up to 24 years in prison and fined more than $28,000, according to the maximum penalties allowed under Maryland law for the various offenses.
