Legion M.S. tourney Friday at Rocky Gap
CUMBERLAND — The American Legion golf tournament to benefit mutliple sclerosis has been rescheduled for Friday at Rocky Gap State Park under the same format.
All teams should call George Beal at (301) 777-1694 or the American Legion Post 13 home at (301) 722-1242. Any new players may also enter.
To date, this tournament is the largest fund-raiser for multiple sclerosis in Washington, Garrett and Allegany counties. Players and hole sponsors are welcome.
Iron Furnace 5K set for Saturday
LONACONING — The 21st annual Iron Furnace 5K will be held Saturday, at 8 a.m., in Lonaconing in conjunction with the celebration of George's Creek Days.
The race will begin at George's Creek Elementary School, north of Lonaconing on Maryland Rt. 36. The point-to-point course will run along George's Creek, through the streets of Lonaconing and finish at the historic Iron Furnace on the north end of town.
Race day registration will be held from 7 to 7:45 a.m. at the Elementary School. For more information call (301) 463-6231.
Hyndman JCP signups Thursday
HYNDMAN, Pa. — Hyndman will hold JCP Soccer League signups on Thursday, from 4 to 6 p.m., at 104 George St., Hyndman. For more information call Emily Kendall at (814) 842-6673.
For all JCP teams, the varsity division consists of boys and girls ages 11-14 as of Sept. 1 in grades 6-8. The jayvee division is for boys and girls ages 8-10 as of Sept. 1 in the grades 3-5. The B Division is for players ages 5-7 as of Sept. 1 in grades K-2. All children entering kindergarten are eligible to play. All players need to bring a copy of their birth certificate to registration.

LL, softball team roundup in today’s T-N
CUMBERLAND — The Little League and Girls Softball Team Roundup appears today in the Times-News in sections C and D. Six of the team photos that were submitted on or before the June 15 deadline for team photos to be submitted — Tri-Towns Red Barons, Tri-Towns Pirates, Tri-Towns Golden Eagles, Tri-Towns 4-5 year-old Bears, Tri-Towns Tee-Ball Wolverines and the Wiley Ford Rangers — are not included in the section because of space limitations. Those team photos will, however, appear in the sports section of the daily editions of the Times-News in the very near future.
No team photos that were submitted after June 15 will appear in the Times-News.
Casselman Valley beats Fort Ashby
SALISBURY, Pa. — Ryan Vogt pitched a complete game and hit a pair of doubles and a single to knock in five runs to lead Casselman Valley over Fort Ashby 13-5 Monday night in Rec League Baseball play at Salisbury.
Teddy Linton doubled and singled to knock in two runs for Casselman Valley, while Ryan Miller doubled. Richard Vogt and Alex Smith both singled in a run. Jeff Garlitz knocked in a run, while Matt McKenzie singled twice.
Colton Jones hit two home runs for Fort Ashby to knock in three runs. Cody Spotts doubled and Zach Brodfield knocked in a run with a single.
Casselman Valley used four 3-run innings to gain the win, knocking out 12 hits. Ryan Vogt gave up nine hits, struck out eight and walked five to get the victory.
Casselman Valley (5-1) will play KMK today at Allegany High School. Fort Ashby (2-3) will play the Times-News today at Frankfort.
Buskirk team wins Connelley tourney
RAWLINGS — The Chaney Buskirk Insurance team of Kevin Robison, Bill Troutman, Skip Sweene and Sean Diamond shot a 58 to win the championship flight of the 5th annual Pat Connelley Memorial Golf Tournament Friday at the Fore Sisters Golf Course. Runner-up with a 59 was the Allegany Liquors team of Doug Moulden, Brett Davis, Bob Nelson and Terry Horner.
The first flight winners with a 59 was the team of Kevin Johnston, Joe Deter, Andy Alt and Rob Shroyer, and runner-up with a 61 was the team of Ken Alkire, Tim Stevens, Mike Stevens and Brian Stevens. The second flight winners in a cardoff with a 62 was the team of Brian Ritchey, Rick Kerr, Todd Burdock and Jeff Wagoner, with the runner-up the team of Perky Yates, Rick Neder, Bill Evans and Dan Kisner.
Closest to the pin winners were John Stewart (No. 4), Dick Sterne (No. 7), Alkire (No. 9), Bill Troutman (No. 11), Johnston (No. 15) and Adam Morgan (No. 18). The longest drives on No. 14 were by Tony Williams and Delana Witt, and the longest putt on No. 12 was by Tim Wilhelm.
Thirty-one teams participated in the event with all proceeds being donated to the Allegany Cancer Society Relay for Life.
CCC holds Father’s Day Closest to Pins
CUMBERLAND — Winners during the Cumberland Country Club Father’s Day Closest to the Pins event were Jim Buzzerd (No. 6), Butch Cross (No. 10), Kevin Yost (No. 12) and Jim Donahue (No. 18).
Bae team wins CCC Pro-Am
CUMBERLAND — The team of Serena Bae, Artie Pulcher, Terri Friend and Marion Leonard came in with a 132 to win the Cumberland Country Club WGA Pro-Am Tuesday at CCC.
Lash team wins at Valley View
MOOREFIELD, W.Va. — The Valley View ladies played a Florida scramble, two-man best-score format, with the team of Nita Lash, Joe Ann Eye and Linda Michael winning with a 171. The teams of Donna Riggleman, Betty Kimble, Mary Brill and Jeanne Connor, Marcia Fisher and Pat Lang tied for second with a score of 176. The team of Ruth Junkins, Betty Mathias and Sue Halterman won low putts with 22.
