Cumberland Astronomy Club members Jim Wilson and his wife Gigi assist an unidentified viewer at the Meyersdale, Pa., train station. The club will continue its 2009 series of Stars in the Park public stargazing sessions with two events this weekend. The first will be held on Friday at the train station. The second will be held Saturday at Soccer Field 7 in the Glendening Recreation Complex in Frostburg. Visitors will be able to view the moon and planet Saturn through a variety of telescopes, including one similar to that used by Galileo. First-time observers will receive a special First Telescopic Observation certificate from the Astronomical League. All visitors are invited to bring along a digital camera so they can photograph the moon through a telescope eyepiece. Observing will begin around 9 p.m. If skies are cloudy, the session for that evening will be canceled. For more information, contact Steve Luzader at (301) 689-1976 between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., by email at s_luzader@comcast.net or visit the club’s Web site at http:// tinyurl.com/a6dqm.
