OAKLAND — An Oakland man who allegedly rammed a sheriff’s cruiser ended up at the hospital but was released and put in jail.
Michael Dewayne Moreland, 24, refused to stop for police for alleged traffic violations Thursday night on Fingerboard Road.
Moreland led police on a 25-mile chase for nearly an hour through the southern end of Garrett County.
The county sheriff’s office said Moreland rammed one of its patrol cars on Silver Knob Road, then wrecked his 1993 Chevrolet four-door on Steyer Gorman Road.
After being released from Garrett County Memorial Hospital, he was charged with attempted assault on an officer, second-degree assault, false statement to police, failure to stop, speeding, driving an uninsured, unregistered vehicle, negligent and reckless driving, failure to drive right of center and driving on a suspended license.
Moreland is being held at the Garrett County Detention Center on $5,000 bond.
