CUMBERLAND — In one very close outcome and one ridiculously close outcome, the Fort Hill girls and the Allegany boys took home their respective team titles during the Cumberland City Track and Field Championships Tuesday night at Greenway Avenue Stadium.
The Fort Hill girls won the title with 48 points, followed closely by Allegany with 41, then Bishop Walsh with 26.
The Allegany boys took their title by slimmest of margins, scoring 69 points to edge Fort Hill, which scored 68 1/2 points. Bishop Walsh followed with 35.
In the girls meet, the Campers’ Aimee Conley was the big winner on the night, winning the 100 meters in 13.41, the long jump at 13-6, and leading off the winning 4 x 200 and 4 x 100 relay teams. The 4 x 200 team won in 1:57, and the 4 x 100 in 55.44 seconds. Both teams consisted of Conley, Kelsey Mellote, Amie Brant, Ciara Hamilton.
Brant also won the 100-meter high hurdles in 18.78 to finish with three first-place finishes. Rebekah Wormack placed first in two events, the discus (94 feet, 10 inches) and the shot put (31-9). Taylor Crabtree and Chanel Barnes also took two first places. Crabtree’s came in the high jump with a mark of 4-6, and in the triple jump at 27-3. Barnes won the 400-meter dash in 1:09, and the 200-meter dash in 27.91.
Nicole Whiteman won the 3200-meter run for the Sentinels, and Alyssa Twigg won the 300-meter intermediate hurdles in 51.19.
For Bishop Walsh Catherine Czapski won two events, the 1600 run in 6:34, and the 800 in 2:55.
Leading the Allegany boys to the title was Brandon Bussard, who won the 100 (11.56), the 200 (24.19) and was a member of the winning 4 x 200 (1:35) and 4 x 100 (45.97) relay teams. Joining Bussard on both teams were Alex Cooper, Kevin Jones and Chris Blake. Blake was also a member of the winning 4 X 400 relay team (3:52) along with Trey O’Baker, Andrew Riggs, and Ty Jones.
Riggs also won the 300 hurdles in 43.41 seconds, while Cooper won the long jump (16-8), and Jones the triple jump (37-7).
Justin Hymes won the discus (121-11 1/2) and the shot put (42-5). Ian MacFawn won the 3200 run in 10:10.
For the Sentinels, Jack Meekins had three first-place finishes, winning the 800 run (2:13), the high jump (5-6), and running on the winning 4 x 800 relay team (9:36). Joining Meekins on that team were Chris Crable, Tyler Skelley and Andrew Harper.
Jordan Helmick won the 110 high hurdles (16.34), Tyrell Helmick the 1600 run (5:20) and Garrett Clay the 400 meters (55.06).
