Forest plans open for online comment

CUMBERLAND — The Maryland Department of Natural Resources Forest Service is accepting online comments on the proposed fiscal 2010 work plans for Green Ridge, Pocomoke, Potomac-Garrett and Savage River state forests.

The plans can be viewed at www.dnr.maryland.gov/forests/mdforests.asp through May 24. E-mail comments should be sent to DNR Forest Supervisor Jack Perdue at jperdue@dnr. state.md.us.

ACM concert, talent show today

CUMBERLAND — The Allegany College of Maryland Choir Concert and Talent Show will begin today at 7 p.m. in the College Theatre.

Vocal, instrumental and dance talents of ACM students and the Wills Mountain Cloggers will be on display.

The 10-member college choir will perform two sets of pieces. Other ACM students will sing solo selections. Several more students will perform dances.

Renewable energy forum set Monday

KEYSER, W.Va. — The Allegheny Front Alliance will hold a public education forum on renewable energy Monday at 6:30 p.m. at Keyser High School.

John Droz Jr. of Emerald Isle, N.C., will present Our Energy Future: Determined by Science or Lobbyists?

A retired physicist who is interested in energy education and public policy, Droz will hold a question-and-answer session as part of the forum.

During the 1 1/2-hour multimedia presentation, Droz will discuss the science behind global warming, industrial wind power, geothermal power, nuclear power and some of the other electrical power alternatives available. He is a member of the Sierra Club, the Association for the Protection of the Adirondacks and other environmental organizations.

Droz has undergraduate degrees in physics and mathematics from Boston College, and a master’s degree in physics from Syracuse University.

The alliance was formed to inform citizens about the basics of industrial wind power because it is a highly complex technical matter. The group maintains that the proposed industrial wind projects along the Allegheny Front will alter how the community will portray and define its future for the next 20 to 25 years.

CRESAPTOWN — The Principal’s Choice list for the third marking period at Cresaptown Elementary School included fifth-graders Alexis George, Taylor VanMeter and T.J. Hartley.
