WILLIAMSPORT — Ryan Andrew Myers, the 23-year-old son of Delegate LeRoy Myers Jr., died Thursday when he was run over by a tractor-trailer after he laid down the motorcycle he was riding.
Maryland State Police said the 5:30 p.m. fatality happened on state Route 63 near French Lane. Myers was northbound when the semi-truck pulled out of a truck stop into his path. Myers braked and skidded about 300 feet, police said, and was run over by the left rear tires of the tractor-trailer operated by Larry Garrett, 62, Edmond, Okla.
Myers was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said Myers apparently was riding his motorcycle at a high rate of speed.
Police have filed no charges, though the accident continues to be investigated.
Myers’ family will receive friends Sunday from 2 to 8 p.m. at Tri-State Fellowship Church, 13153 Cearfoss Pike, Hagerstown.
The funeral will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the church.
LeRoy Myers is a Republican from Clear Spring in Washington County.
His family said in a statement: “Ryan was a precious son that only wanted to please. He was loved by everyone and had a special gift of loving and caring for children and youth.”
In June, Ryan Myers survived a 20-foot ride over a Potomac River dam. He got probation for operating a motorized personal watercraft in a restricted area.
The family requests memorial donations to be made to Grace Academy, 13321 Cearfoss Pike, Hagerstown, MD 21740.
