Grant County man jailed without bond on murder charge

AUGUSTA, W.Va. — A Maysville man charged with murder from a Saturday shooting in Grant County remained jailed without bond Monday at the Potomac Highlands Regional Jail.

Virgil Steven Ketterman, 50, was taken to the regional jail after being released from a Morgantown hospital Sunday where he was treated for a gunshot wound to the face.

Ketterman is charged with murder after allegedly shooting 22-year-old Daniel William Sherman of Maysville.

The shooting occurred during an apparent domestic dispute, according to West Virginia State Police Senior Trooper C.T. Kessel of the Moorefield-Petersburg detachment.

Police said Sherman allegedly fired a handgun and shot Ketterman in the left side of his face.

Ketterman then allegedly fired a shot from a hunting rifle that killed Sherman, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident occurred at about 12:15 a.m. on a rear porch of the Ketterman residence on Eston Carr Road in Maysville.

The investigation is continuing.

Ketterman was jailed without bond following arraignment Monday by Grant County Magistrate Larry Ours.
