Maysville resident fatally shot
MAYSVILLE, W.Va. — One man is dead and another is in a Morgantown hospital following a shooting incident that occurred shortly after midnight Saturday at a Maysville residence on Eston Carr Road.
When West Virginia State Police troopers along with deputies from the Grant County and Hardy County sheriff’s departments arrived at the residence of Virgil Steven Ketterman, 50, they discovered the body of Daniel William Sherman, 22, also of Maysville, lying on the rear porch of Ketterman’s house, according to state police at Moorefield.
Authorities also discovered that Ketterman had received what was believed to be a single gunshot wound to the left side of his face.
According to the state police report, witness statements and evidence indicated the two men go into a dispute. Police believe Sherman shot Ketterman in the face with a handgun before being shot by Ketterman with a hunting rifle.
Sherman was pronounced dead at the scene and Ketterman was transported to Grant Memorial Hospital in Petersburg. He was later transferred to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown. Additional assistance was provided by Fraley’s Ambulance, Grant County and the Maysville Volunteer Fire Department.
