BURLINGTON, W.Va. — Two people were flown by helicopter to the hospital and another taken by ambulance following a two-vehicle crash Wednesday on Patterson Creek Road that occurred at about the same time as a fire that destroyed a nearby structure.
Maryland State Police medevac helicopter and Air Care 4 from the Winchester (Va.) Medical Center responded to the accident that occurred at about 12:45 p.m. on Patterson Creek Road near Shirley Lane.
The fire reportedly destroyed a residence located across the road from the Burlington Elementary School. The crash scene and fire scene are about a mile apart.
Initial reports indicated there were no injuries in the fire that destroyed a two-story residence located about a quarter-mile from U.S. Route 50.
Two deputies of the Mineral County Sheriff’s Department investigated the accident.
The two incidents prompted a detour with closure of U.S. 50 and Patterson Creek Road.
Numerous volunteer fire companies responded along with the West Virginia Fire Marshal’s Office.
