ECKHART — A flue fire that extended into the residence brought volunteer firefighters from several companies to 17127 National Pike late Thursday morning.
The incident at the Michael Dixon residence caused damages estimated at $10,000 to the two-story frame and $2,000 to its contents, according to Deputy Chief Fire Marshal Ryan Chapman of the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office.
There were no injuries in the 8:37 a.m. accidental fire that Chapman said was caused by a clogged flue that overheated and allowed fire to spread into the structure.
Five members of the Dixon family were displaced and were being assisted by other family members.
The fire prompted num-erous calls from passersby and a neighbor of the residence located near Porter Road, according to the Allegany County 911 Joint Communications Division.
The Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office investigated.
Allegany County Fire Police closed both ends of U.S. Route 40 through Eckhart during the fire operation due to icy roadways stemming from water used to douse the fire.
Frostburg Area Ambulance stood by at the scene along with fire companies from Clarysville, Frostburg, Midland, Shaft and LaVale. Nearly two dozen firefighters responded.
In an unrelated incident, Frostburg Volunteer Fire Company extinguished a flue fire at a residence in the 100 block of Mount Pleasant Street at 9:20 a.m. Thursday. The fire was confined to the flue and units were on the scene a short time, according to the fire company.
