Tuesday by 9 p.m. deadline to register to vote, seek polling place change in Allegany County

CUMBERLAND — The deadline to register to vote and the deadline for certain voters to request a polling place change for the presidential election is 9 p.m. Tuesday.

To vote in the Nov. 4 general election, Allegany County residents who are eligible to vote but are not yet registered must complete a voter registration application and either hand-deliver or mail the application to the Board of Elections, 701 Kelly Road, Suite 213, Cumberland, MD 21502.

A hand-delivered application must be received by the board by 9 p.m. Tuesday and a mailed application must be postmarked by Tuesday. This is also the deadline for registered voters who have moved since the last election to provide updated address information to the board.

All polling places in Allegany County are accessible to voters with disabilities with the exception of Orleans Volunteer Fire Department. Elderly voters or voters with a disability assigned to this polling place may request reassignment to an accessible voting site in writing by 9 p.m. on Tuesday.

Voter registration applications and the forms to request a change of polling place are available at www.elections. state.md.us or call the Allegany County Board of Elections at (301) 777-5931.

A public demonstration on a randomly selected unit of the AccuVote TS voting system that will be used in the election will be conducted Oct. 20 at 2 p.m. in Room 100 of the County Office Complex on Kelly Road. The demonstration will involve casting votes on the unit while at the same time hand-tallying the votes cast.
