OSHKOSH, Wis. — Junior Sumer Rohrs earned her first outdoor National Championship of her Frostburg State University career in the 100-meter hurdles Saturday afternoon at the 2008 NCAA Championships on the campus of the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh.
Junior Brian Leiter earned All-American honors in the 800-meter run.
Rohrs, a two-time 55-meter hurdle indoor National Champion, finished the 100 hurdles with a 13.68 and defeated Liz Faller of Wisconsin-Eau Claire (13.98) to claim the title.
In her second event of the championships, the 400-meter hurdles, Rohrs came up just short of a second title finishing runner-up with a time of 60.71. Sarah Wittingen of Calvin won the event in 59.39, a Division III season best time and J.J. Keller Field record.
After Rohrs’ two events, Frostburg State was tied for sixth place with 18 points.
Leiter capped the NCAA Championships with a fifth-place finish and All-American honors in the 800-meter run in 1:52.48. Emmanuel Bofa of Whitworth won the title with a 1:51.01.
Earlier in the afternoon, Leiter just missed All-American honors after finishing ninth in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 3:54.37. The top eighth finishers earn All-American honors and Leiter finished just two seconds behind Travis Wray of Lynchburg who finished eighth in 3:52.37.
After Leiter’s two events, the Bobcats were tied for 53rd with 4.0 points.
