Press association awards three staffers at Times News

CUMBERLAND - The Times-News Editorial and Graphics departments brought home four awards from the Maryland, Delaware, D.C. Press Association 2007 Editorial Contest on Friday.

Staff writer Daleen Berry won two second-place awards for columns. "Many factors involved when mothers kill" won in the Local Column: Critical Thinking category.

"Ashes to ashes, urns to trunks, Dad in limbo" placed in the Local Column: Feature or Humor category.

Staff writer Michael A. Sawyers placed second in the Business/Economic category for "Life after Kelly."

Graphics designer Shannon Burnside won second place in Informational Graphics for the Barton mine wall collapse time line.

The awards were presented at a luncheon held at the Turf Valley Resort in Ellicott City.

The Times-News staff competed against newspapers with a daily circulation from 30,000 to 75,000.

All work judged in the contest was published in the Times-News during 2007.
