Garrett County man dies in crash

OAKLAND - A 46-year-old Mountain Lake Park man was fatally injured in a two-vehicle crash Monday evening on Sand Flat Road.

Eric S. Myers was pronounced dead at the scene of the 6:14 p.m. crash by personnel from the State Medical Examiner's Office, Maryland State Police said.

A 2002 Subaru operated by Myers southbound on Sand Flat Road crossed the center line. Myers had driven to the northbound shoulder after he apparently observed an approaching northbound 2005 Chevrolet Avalanche.

Myers took evasive action in an attempt to return to the southbound lane when his vehicle spun sideways and was struck on the driver's-side door by the truck operated by David R. Blythe, 53, of Oakland. Blythe was not injured, police said.

Police said Myers' use of alcohol is believed to have factored in the crash.

Southern Rescue Squad, Deer Park Volunteer Fire Company and Maryland Natural Resources Police assisted at the scene.
