CUMBERLAND - With the drilling of geothermal wells still taking place for its heating and cooling system, the Allegany College of Maryland library renovation and expansion project remains on track.
"We're still on schedule," said ACM Dean of Administrative Services Mona Clites, who expects the building to be completed this summer and ready for use by the start of the fall semester.
ACM's inner track will remain closed this semester while 60 300-foot wells are being drilled, according to Clites. The outer loop has remained open during the project.
While the $4 million library expansion and renovation project has been taking place, the recently renovated Allied Health Building has served as a temporary library. The 11,000-square-foot addition to the library will provide space for the computer lab, board room and the college's Appalachian Collection.
Lashley Construction of Frostburg is the primary contractor for the library renovation and addition project. The geothermal wells are being drilled by Wayne's Water 'N Wells of Oakland.
The Physical Education Building is also slated to receive a geothermal system. President Don Alexander hopes to have the building converted from liquid propane to a geothermal system this summer.
