Summer book sale benefits Newspapers in Education

CUMBERLAND - The Cumberland Times-News will collect used books through mid-June for a book sale to be held at the Country Club Mall in July to benefit the Newspaper in Education program.

Books may be taken to any Times-News location: 19 Baltimore St.; 19 Broadway, Frostburg; 40 1/2 Main St., Keyser; and 685 Mosser Road, McHenry.

Guest Services at Center Court at the Country Club Mall will accept book donations so that people may take a couple of bags of books with them to drop off when they go shopping.

"We will accept hard-back novels, children's books, cookbooks, craft and gardening books, paperback romances, Westerns, etc.," said Linda Shipway, NIE coordinator. "We accept educational books, but not encyclopedias, outdated textbooks or reference books, National Geographic magazines or Reader's Digest condensed books."

The book sale will run from July 5 through 8 during the mall's working hours, according to Shipway.

"This will be a good time to pick up some summer reading material at super low prices while helping NIE supply newspapers to area schools," she said. "Jan Beem, manager of Country Club Mall, has some good ideas to involve the mall's stores in this four-day event. There will be an Edible Book Feast and other activities. More details will be announced. We just wanted to get the word out that book donations are being accepted."
