Westmar 'Fan' night Friday

LONACONING - Westmar High School will hold Fan Appreciation Night Friday, Oct. 13, for the Hancock-Westmar football game at Westmar High School, according to Westmar athletic director Rick Scaletta.

The game begins at 7 p.m. and all fans will be admitted free of charge. The crowning of the Westmar Homecoming Queen will take place during halftime.

FH to sell Homecoming tickets

CUMBERLAND - Homecoming tickets for Fort Hill High School football season-ticket holders will be on sale Oct. 16-18, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., in room 108 of the school. The cost for each ticket is $6.

Bingo to benefit D&D; Wildcats

WESTERNPORT - The Westmar D&D; Wildcats youth football team will sponsor a benefit bingo Nov. 12 at the Westernport American Legion.

Doors will open at 1 p.m. and games will begin at 2 p.m.

Prizes will include a wide variety of holiday Home Interiors gifts, gift baskets, and more. Doorprizes will also be given away.

Mould team wins Maplehurst senior's event by three strokes

FROSTBURG - The team of Louis Mould, Al Comer, Claude Comer and Lou Femi won the Senior Men's golf outing Tuesday at Maplehurst Country Club with a score of 52.

The second-place team was Ed Hounshell, Lynn Olsen, Ted Durbin and Joe Freno with a score of 55.

Davis team wins Grasshoppers

IMLER, Pa. - The team of Chuck Davis, Paul Kelly, Lee Garland and Peggy Michael teamed for a 65 to win the Western Maryland Grasshoppers Club shamble, on Tuesday at the King Valley Golf Course.

Taking second with a 67 were Jim Miller, Earl Clark, Earl Filsinger and George Pugh. There were 28 members who participated.

The next outing will be Tuesday at Whitetail Resort in Mercersburg, Pa. Players must cal Gene Wilt at (301) 759-4961 by Sunday to make reservations.

PSC places third at PCAA competition; Jewell makes history

KEYSER - The Potomac State College golf team placed third in the PCAA tournament on Monday and Tuesday, posting a 479 just behind winning team Westmoreland at 469 and Bucks Community College at 470.

In the two-day event, the medalist honors went to Zach Fischi of Northampton Community College, in record-setting performance, with a 1 over par score for the two days. The Catamounts were led by Jessica Jewell, who placed on the all-state team with a two day total of 157. Jewell, an Allegany High graduate, was the first female in the history of the event to earn all-state honors.

The Catamounts ended the season with a combined record of 50-9-1.

FSU golf finishes fourth at AMCC Championships

PAINESVILLE, Ohio - The Frostburg State golf team finished the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Championship in fourth place this past weekend.

The Bobcats shot a two-round total of 696 and tied for fourth with Pitt-Bradford. Penn State Altoona won the title with a 653 followed by La Roche with a 667 and Penn State Behrend with a 680.

Junior Joe Eaton tied for fifth overall and led the team with a 165.

Senior James Avampato was second on the FSU squad with a 173 followed by junior Sean Buenger with a 175. Freshman Ralph Baker was fourth on the team with a 185.

Frostburg State plays Thursday at the ECAC Regional Championships hosted by Penn State Altoona.

No. 14 Juniata downs

Frostburg State field hockey, 4-1

FROSTBURG - Kim Wagner scored two goals and added an assist to lead No. 14 ranked Juniata to a 4-1 win over Frostburg State, Tuesday afternoon at Bobcat Field.

The Bobcats are now 4-10 on the year while the Eagles have won their third-straight game to improve to 12-1.

Junior Michelle Frost gave FSU the early 1-0 lead 9:12 into the contest. Freshman Kelly Filipowitz fed the ball to Frost off a penalty corner who slipped it past the keeper.

Just over four minutes later, Heather Hassinger evened the game with a goal off a penalty corner taken by Erin Smith. Leslie Brown gave the visitor's the lead for good with a goal at 31:47 off a feed from Wagner.

Wagner, who entered the game leading NCAA Division III with 4.67 points per game, sealed the contest for the Eagles scoring back-to-back goals in the 38th and 69th minutes. Sarah Bender and Meredith Low were credited with the assists, respectively.

As a unit, Juniata entered the game ranked third in the country with an average of 0.57 goals against and 10th in the country, scoring 4.01 points per game.

Junior Amanda Runion took the loss for the Bobcats making two saves while Abby Funk earned the win for the Eagles stopping one shot.

Frostburg State hosts Notre Dame Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
