Allegany Scrap Inc. opens at North Branch park
CUMBERLAND — Allegany Scrap Inc., a full-service, scrap metal recycler, has opened for business at 14801 Lock House Road, just off PPG Road in the North Branch Industrial Park, south of Cumberland.
Allegany Scrap represents the latest service center opened by Smith Industries Inc., which operates several sites throughout Maryland and will serve Western Maryland and the surrounding West Virginia and Pennsylvania areas.
Items accepted for cash will be sheet iron, light and heavy steel, cast iron, plate and structure, prepared white goods and appliances, copper, brass, bronze, electric motors, aluminum, stainless steel, zinc/die cast, litho sheet, lead/acid batteries, insulated wire, catalytic converters, aluminum wheels and cans, automobiles/trucks/scrap farm equipment and trailers.
Allegany Scrap will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., weekdays, and 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Saturdays.
Mountain Laurel medical center to open in Oakland
OAKLAND — Mountain Laurel Medical Center will have its grand opening at 888 Memorial Drive with an open house Thursday from 1 to 5 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Operators will describe the services available and said the facility will offer care to everyone in the community, whether they are uninsured, under-insured or fully insured.
Md. Department of Aging honors Frostburg ACS site
FROSTBURG — The Affiliated Computer Services Inc. (ACS) facility in Frostburg has been named one of Maryland’s 2006 Employers of the Year by the Maryland Department of Aging.
The award recognizes employers in Maryland’s Allegany County that actively seek and employ older workers.
ACS’ call center facility in Frostburg has operated since 1996, delivering customer care and business process outsourcing services for a nationally-known clients.
More than 550 people are employed there, making ACS one of the largest employers in the Frostburg area.
Greg Jimenez, Frostburg, said older workers bring a level of experience, maturity, and work ethic to a work force that sets an example for others and helps reinforce standards of service and support.
Mateljan new purchasing director for Somerset firm
SOMERSET, Pa. — Somerset Welding & Steel Inc. has appointed Tim Mateljan as purchasing director.
He previously was the company’s materials coordinator and recently graduated from Geneva College with a bachelor’s degree in organizational development.
Mateljan will be responsible for establishing, developing and maintaining relationships with suppliers and to develop, recommend and implement new purchasing department policies and procedures.
The company manufactures dump truck bodies, trailers and specialty truck equipment.
Giffin on Thomas Hyundai & Subaru sales staff
CUMBERLAND — Rob-ert Giffin has been named sales associate at Thomas Hyundai & Subaru in Motor City. He recently completed the Hyundai and Subaru Certified Training Course in Carlisle, Pa., and earned the Product Knowledge Certificate from Thomas.
Giffin has sales, marketing and customer service experience in a professional career that includes mortgage and retail sales. He is involved in civic and community groups and resides in Rawlings with his wife, Judy. They have two sons.
