Harvest of 92 bears smashes Md. record

Albert Lankford, Grantsville, bagged a 374-pound black bear near Chestnut Ridge Road during the Maryland season. The landowner’s tractor was needed to retrieve the large bear that was taken with a .270 caliber rifle. “This year I was able to finally draw a bear permit having five preference points and entering the drawing since the reintroduction of the hunt,” Lankford said. “Guess the point system is really working.”
