EQR, Inc. of Arbutus removes an old dam on the North Branch of the Potomac River that was part of the since-razed Celanese Fibers plant near Cresaptown. The site is behind the Western Correctional Institution. The $131,850 project is being coordinated by the Allegany County Soil Conservation District and funded mostly by the Department of Natural Resources. The dam has been dangerous for people floating the river, according to DNR officials. Removal will also improve upstream fish passage.
