From Staff Reports

OAKLAND — At least six people were taken to hospitals over the weekend following three separate accidents in Garrett County and one in nearby Preston County, W.Va.

Sixty-one-year-old Frederick Higginbotham of McHenry was taken to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, W.Va., by Northern Rescue Squad following an accident shortly before 5 p.m. Sunday on Mill Run Road in Friendsville.

State police at McHenry said Higginbotham was riding a 2006 Triumph motorcycle on the roadway when a dog ran in front of him and he laid the motorcycle on its side.

No information was available concerning Higginbotham’s injuries or medical condition.

Sunday at 5:27 a.m., an accident on Interstate 68 west of Amish Road sent 21-year-old Devin J. Lee of Inwood, W.Va., to Cumberland Memorial Hospital. No information was available concerning his injuries or condition.

State police said Lee was driving a 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer eastbound at the 16-mile marker when he apparently fell asleep, causing the vehicle to travel out of control across the highway before it struck an embankment and overturned.

Northern Rescue Squad and Grantsville Volunteer Fire Company also responded.

Saturday at 10:50 p.m., Lisa G. Robinson, 41, of Morgantown, W.Va., was injured in an accident on I-68 and taken to Ruby Memorial Hospital by Healthnet helicopter.

West Virginia State Police Trooper Lucas White said Robinson was driving a Toyota Highlander at an apparent high rate of speed when she lost control near the West Virginia-Maryland state line. The vehicle overturned several times and Robinson was ejected.

Information concerning Robinson’s injuries or medical condition was not available. Northern Rescue Squad and a Preston County EMS unit also responded.

Two people were taken to Ruby Memorial Hospital and one to Garrett Memorial following a head-on collision at 7:15 p.m. Sunday on Sand Flat Road at Pergin Farm Road in Oakland, state police said.

Guy J. Griffin, 36, of Dillener, Pa., and Cheryl E. Yommer, 52, of Mountain Lake Park, were taken to Ruby Memorial by Maryland State Police medevac helicopter for treatment of unspecified injuries. Timothy K. Yommer, 49, of Mountain Lake Park, was taken to Garrett Memorial. No information was available concerning their conditions.

Police said Griffin was driving a 1990 Jeep Cherokee northbound on Sand Flat Road when he crossed the center of the roadway and struck a 2008 Dodge Nitro head-on.
