Deep Creek Lake State Park will be congested
SWANTON — Deep Creek Lake State Park roads, ramp and beach area will be heavily congested for most of the day Sept. 20 for the TRI-TO-WIN SavageMan Triathlon, which will begin and end at the beach area. Visitors should expect traffic congestion and a large number of people moving throughout the park from 5 a.m. until 5 p.m.
Boaters should plan to stay away from the Meadow Mountain bridge area of the lake for most of the morning. Other segments of the race use the roadways and service road throughout the entire park.
Visitors are encouraged to avoid any use of the boat ramp Sunday. Contact the park office at (301) 387-5563 with any questions about park visitor impact.
More than 600 athletes are registered to participate in the event, which is a fundraiser and awareness campaign of the nonprofit Joanna M. Nicolay Melanoma Foundation.

Access to university’s Lane Center soon limited
FROSTBURG — Frostburg State University, which is embarking on a $17 million renovation of the Lane University Center, will make changes to the building’s access starting as early as Thursday. Construction fencing will limit entry to the building to only the northwest side nearest the Ort Library.
The walkway between Lane and Tawes Hall will be closed, but access will be provided through Tawes Hall by using the entrance at the end of the building nearest the clock tower and exiting through the Tawes front doors.
The Lane Center will be open to the public throughout the fall semester, but it will close and be taken off line for all of 2010. Most offices and services will move to Tawes and the attached Engineering Annex until the renovation is complete in the spring semester of 2011.
