One of the best things about summer in Allegany County occurs this week: it’s fair week.
The Allegany County Fair & Ag Expo kicks off today and runs through Sunday, July 26. There truly is something for everyone.
The activities begin at 10 a.m. today when the 4H/FFA horse show begins. At 4 p.m. there will be a 4H/FFA poultry show. The popular vespers service will be held at 7 p.m., conducted by the Rev. Ken Heath with music by the Western Baptist Association. Then at 8 p.m. the farm bureau queen contest and crowning is scheduled.
One of the fair’s most popular attractions are rides by Reithoffer Shows. The midway rides will open Monday and continue daily through next Sunday.
Agriculture, of course, is a major part of the fair and there will be plenty of livestock, vegetable, flower, crafts and baked good exhibits.
Entertainment will abound. Luke Bryan will perform Tuesday night and Neal McCoy will be on stage Wednesday night. Thursday’s schedule will be highlighted by mud bog competition. Friday night will have a monster truck show. Those attending Saturday night will be able to see a demolition derby. Stock car races will be held Sunday, July 26. Another highlight will be the model railroad display that will be open throughout the week.
