NEW CREEK, W.Va. — A Keyser man burned Monday morning at Sisler Lumber Co. was flown by Maryland State Police medevac helicopter Trooper 5 to West Penn Burn Center in Pittsburgh, according to a dispatcher for Mineral County Emergency Services and Homeland Security.
The victim was identified by Maryland State Police Aviation Division as Timothy E. Jackson, 42.
Jackson was working on a truck in the garage area when a carburetor apparently backfired, causing gasoline to ignite his clothing at about 8:15 a.m. He received second- and third-degree burns above his waist. He was in stable condition late Monday.
An attempt by the Times-News to contact lumber company spokesmen was not successful.
Other emergency responders came from departments in New Creek, Fountain and McCoole.
