Garrett schools to get stimulus money
OAKLAND — The Garrett County Board of Education will discuss stimulus funding at its Tuesday meeting.
The meeting will begin at 4 p.m. at the Board of Education building with executive session topics scheduled at 4:10 p.m. The public portion begins at 5:30 p.m.
The agenda includes a discussion of stimulus funding for food service equipment and special education. Members will also review the extracurricular handbook, music program and the comprehensive maintenance plan for educational facilities.
LaVale upgrades to be discussed
LAVALE — LaVale residents will be updated on storm drain improvements and stream restoration projects by Allegany County Public Works in a July 20 session jointly hosted by the Braddock Run Watershed Association and the LaVale Civic Improvement Association. The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. in LaVale Library.
Adam Patterson, a county engineer, will provide information on a storm-drain system for the upper LaVale neighborhood that includes Parkside Elementary School.
The system is under design to better handle runoff along Parkside and LaVale boulevards, LaVale Court, Eleanor Street and some sections of Weires Avenue.
Patterson also will update the audience on planned stream restoration efforts in the Braddock Run watershed as well as the proposed Braddock Run Sanitary Sewer Interceptor Project.
Both associations meet in combined sessions at 6:30 p.m. on the third Monday of each month in the library.
