Mineral tax year begins

KEYSER, W.Va. — Mineral County’s 2010 tax year business and individual personal property assessment forms will be mailed today.

Completed forms are due by Oct. 1 and should include personal property owned as of July 1.

Dog licenses for dogs older than 6 months are also renewed for each tax year. Fees may be included with the property assessment form. Residents in the city limits of Keyser, Piedmont, Elk Garden, Ridgeley or Carpendale pay $6 per dog. All other county residents pay $3 per dog.

Various forms and applications are available in the Mineral County Assessor’s Office in the courthouse:

• Farm use application — due by Sept. 1.

• Farm use decals — Must be actively farming to qualify.

• Homestead exemption — Must be 65 by June 30, 2010. Apply by Dec. 1.

• Disability exemption — Must be totally and permanently disabled. Apply by Dec. 1 and bring disability award paperwork.

• Managed timber land — Apply by Sept. 1 with Division of Forestry in Charleston.
