Homer Blubaugh [Oldtown]

OLDTOWN — Homer Blubaugh, 72, of Oldtown, died Friday, July 3, 2009, en route to the hospital after a day spent outside working on the farm.

Born June 3, 1937, in Cumberland, Homer was the son of the late Arthur F. and Margaret L. (Weese) Blubaugh. He was preceded in death by his son, Edward (Eddie), brother, Renold Blubaugh and sister, Betty Stafford.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Jean Blubaugh; and his daughters, Cathy Krogel and husband Tom, of Springfield, Va., Jeanette Rinehart and husband Karl, of Flintstone, Darlene Haines and husband Robert, of Green Spring, W.Va., Nancy Fletcher and husband Paul, of Rockwood, Pa., Diane Parker and husband Robert, of Flintstone, and Lisa Blubaugh, of Gaithersburg; grandsons, Brandon and Danny Eaton, Ryan and Tyler Krogel, Mark and Keith Rinehart, Joseph, Thomas and Andrew Haines, Darrin Fletcher, and Derrick, Alex and Austin Parker; granddaughters, Vanessa Rinehart, Rachel Fletcher, and Ashley and Sarah Parker; four great-grandchildren; and his brothers, Carroll, of Cumberland and James, of Oldtown.

Homer worked for the Allegany County Board of Education as a bus driver and janitor. He was especially proud to drive the school bus for Flintstone School for 50 years. He enjoyed farming and raising livestock. He spent countless hours working outside in the garden and atop his tractor. He was on the Board of Directors for the Allegany County Farm Bureau and was awarded (along with Jean) the Farm Bureau Agricultural Service Award in 1998. For more than 20 years, he was a strong supporter of the Allegany County AG EXPO livestock sale, serving as secretary for part of that time. He sold his produce at the Mountain Fresh Producers Association Framers Market where he was on the Board of Directors.

Homer was a tireless role model for his children and grandchildren, a friend to everyone and will be missed by all who knew him.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave., Cumberland, scarpellifuneralhomes.com on Sunday from 6 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be conducted in the funeral home on Monday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Fred Iser and Father Bernard Finerty, O.F.M., Cap. officiating.

Interment will be at SS Peter and Paul Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Brandon Eaton, Danny Eaton, Darrin Fletcher and Jimmy Blubaugh.
